3/24/10 Off for a week on a trip

No pictures to post but good news, today was my last day to do my long-term sub job. The children came in with flowers and another mom brought some more flowers and a nice vase. I felt like "Queen for a Day"! ( I am really dating myself!) I am rushing to pack the car before the storms hit but the beer is in and that is most important! Off to my antiquing junket I take twice a year. Good pictures of bluebonnets on the way home. Can't wait to return to REALLY rest and get back into my painting.

Well, since this is the first full day of spring and we had 6 inches of snow last night, I thought I'd post my bluebird and hope he brings spring back this week! Thank you for checking in on my blog.

3/18/10 Little Boy Blue,Sharon and Georgia

This little fellow is my neighbor's grandson. The picture she gave me was sepia so I had no clue as to his coloring except he had blonde hair and blue eyes. This was kind of an experiment but even though I love it , I don't think she will so I'll probably do another in color for her. It was very good for me to stretch myself and play with monochromatic colors. I worked on him most of the day and feel pleased with the results. Very soft, yet striking.

Had the studio all to myself ALL day. My fellow painters went to Fort Worth to the Kimball Art Museum and never came back to paint.

I got Sharon finished and even hung her on the wall. It was fun but a little solitary down there all day.

3/16/10 Sharon and Georgia

In the two days that I have been off for Spring Break I have been able to do this rough painting of Sharn Hodges and her sidekick, the big brown dog, Georgia Brown. Sharon is much more beautiful than this and I still have work to do and more to add to the picture but this is a pretty good beginning. I think Georgia looks pretty good but we'll see.

2/14/10 There's Always One in a Crowd

This is a very festive image caught by my friend Terry Porter. I loved all the bright colors. I did a lot of this with my pallet knife. I am enjoying using this tool a lot and I also used some impasto medium to thicken the paint . Lots of fun to do. Still working on when to use the brush to tighten up and when to use the knife to stay loose. Difficult distinction. Thanks for taking the time to view my blog.

1/26/10 Benjamin Patillo - FINISHED

This is the finished portrait of Benjamin Patillo. I used a picture by Tracy Allen Croysdale - a professional photographer. Her pictures of little "Banjo" were the inspiration for this painting. I really gravitated to the strong colors and intense look on Benjamin's face. These were taken this summer when he had just turned one. I am very proud of the delicacy I used on his face and the thick fast strokes I used in the background. This is one of my favorite portraits that I've ever done.

1/25/10 Little Lady

This "Little Lady," was a very quick painting. Fun to work fast. Not my best work but it was fun. I love lady bugs!
