Just loved doing these four little birds. It was challenging at times because the canvas is so small! This can be seen and purchased at JT Osgood's salon,The Songbird Society.

2/14/10 There's Always One in a Crowd

This is a very festive image caught by my friend Terry Porter. I loved all the bright colors. I did a lot of this with my pallet knife. I am enjoying using this tool a lot and I also used some impasto medium to thicken the paint . Lots of fun to do. Still working on when to use the brush to tighten up and when to use the knife to stay loose. Difficult distinction. Thanks for taking the time to view my blog.

01/12/10 Allie finally finished!

I finished Allie up today and signed it. This is what she looks like - at least to me. She is so beautiful, smart and kind - you can't imagine a better person. I'm sure her parents would agree. Now the hard part - letting her dry before I frame her!

1/6/10 Allie - not finished but well on her way

I've just barely begun her hair! Some times when I look at it - it looks just like her and other times, I wonder how I could go so wrong. There is something that I've done or not done to the right side of her face ( I think it is her jawline) that isn't correct. I still have to darken the shadows that should be on the sides of her temples and work on her hair! I did get her nose but the shape of her face is off. Don't worry it WILL be correct before I finish or I'll start over.

This is an example of a great picture that is difficult to paint because it doesn' thave any deep shadows. The front flash deletes them when they take the picture.

01/02/10 "The Greats" - progress

This picture was part of a Christmas card from my nephew Mike and his cute wife Nancy. I call them "the greats" because I have asked them to call me "Carol the great," rather than Great Aunt Carol! They are a precious pair - Payton, 2 yrs., and Morgan,about to turn 4. It isn't finished but I will have to put in the finishing touches when it dries. I did the whole thing in one day and the paint is practically dripping off the canvas.

I don't know who will get this. Karen Rike came up with a super idea - auction it off between the family members! It was lots of fun because I used my palette knife on a lot of it. I will keep you updated on the progress

This little fellow was one of my first attempts at oils and I still love him. We stopped on the way home from a Salado workshop with Carol Marine. We originally wanted pictures of the wierd cows (they look like pigs!) but they just kept getting farther away. This darling burrow came right up to me and, much to the horror of my friends, he let me pet him. He was so tame and stood just where I needed him to so I could capture him on my digital camera. I decided then that he would be my first oil painting! He has a special place in my heart for that very reason.

Can't wait to return to the studio to begin painting again after the long Thanksgiving holiday. Thanks for looking at my blog. There will be more coming soon.

10/26/09 Goodbye to my sweet Tyler

Today I am packing up my favorite portrait to send to his mom! This is little Tyler Clark - and he has just turned one year old! I did his portrait about five or six months ago and have entered him in several contests. One of my painting partners, Kay Wyne, gave me his picture to paint. Her daughter was his nanny in Arkansas and is going up soon for a visit. Tyler (painting) is going with her.
