09/11/11 Just the beginning of my Outer Banks painting

This is the first time in almost a week that I've been to the studio. I'm working on a painting of the outer banks. This is a detailed painting and is going to take me a LONG time to complete. It is not like I have the chance to paint every day so I really try to get a lot done while I'm there. I want this to emote the feeling of relaxation and joy that this couple feels after a day on the outer banks and how much they'll enjoy their dinner of wine and clams and oysters.
The grasses are challenging me right now, but I'm sure I'll figure it out and not have to paint every blade! (which is what I always want to do) It might be a palette knife opportunity!!
Thanks for taking the time to check out my blog!

06/15/11 Slow and steady

I added more leaves but it still isn't right. I need to put a haze on the mountains and do something to the trunks of the trees.
Thank you for looking at my blog on this warm summer night.

06/09/11 Slow progress

I actually did this on Sunday or Monday but my days have been cram - packed with seven year old birthdays and eight year old skaters and lunch and dinner and books and .................. everything but my painting!
It is slowly evolving into the painting I want it to be. Thank you for looking at my blog.

06/05/11 On the easel now!

So many people are painting aspens or are these birch trees? I don't know. Anyway I am painting these trees from an image that Pam Forgerson took and let me borrow. She and her family have taken so many neat trips and have such wonderful pictures that she was kind enough to let me borrow. I took a close-up of the lower foreground because I like the looseness and the way it draws your eye back into the trees and mountains. I had to stop before putting in the trees because everything was so wet. I'll try to set in some tree trunks and part of the foliage today.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my blog today.

08/14/10 On the easel

After working a tight painting and some delicate glazing, I wanted to be free and BIG so I chose to paint another painting for the Tex. Discovery Gardens show at the end of this month. I like my work for this show so much that I want to use it in another show that is more people friendly and more apt to be bought. Does that make sense? I might really like this one also but it IS going to TDG. This is part of Turtle Creek and I loved the reflection in the water. Started it yesterday and it will take a while to develop it into the painting I want.
Thank you for looking at my blog today. Keep cool.

12/11/09

Going to the studio today with the idea of finishing this landscape. I want to hang it in my dining room. Almost the whole painting was done with a pallet knife. It is a lot of fun to use a pallet knife but it really eats up the paint and takes foreveer to dry! It is worth it all for the finished product. Thank you for viewing my blog and I WILL post the finished product.
