05/23/10 On my easel - some progress

Only worked a couple hours today because it got uncomfortably warm today.(sad words since we JUST got a new AC unit) I think I have gained a new respect for my colleague, Mark Malone, because landscapes are so difficult to paint - - - successfully. Granted, this is just barely begun but there is a lot of under-painting to do before the character comes out. This is my "broken ankle," Trinity River painting that I'm doing for our show at Texas Discovery Gardens --- Fair Park, in late summer. My reference photo is just above so you can see what I'm aiming for. Hope it makes it.

05.22/10 Flowering Fenceline

Got to the studio early today (10:00) and worked on this painting all day. I am still not pleased enough to say it is ready but it is much farther along. It doesn't have the depth and perspective I wanted to achieve. Maybe I need to "step away from the painting," as my teacher Kathleen says. I don't want to over-paint it. I'll wait until Tuesday evening and get some constructive criticism from my colleagues. Something is "so not right!"

05/21/10 On my easel

This fenceline drew me in so quickly that I've abandoned everything else. Not really. Today is the first day in a long time that I've been able to spend any time at the studio. I've been busy teaching to pay for my broken ankle! I will be teaching all next week also.

This image was taken by my highschool friend Terry Porter who is an amazing artist with her camera. I have LOTS more to paint to let the bluebonnets evolve and aquire some depth before I'm finished. This is just a start.

05/15/10 On My easel

Just began blocking in color for the image I caught of the Trinity River. Linda, Karen and Suzy and I took a trip to the Trinity River Audobaun(sp). But not before I stepped in a hole and broke my left ankle (again!). It is more of a hairline crack but I'm still stuck in a boot cast for 6 weeks. I walked the trails for two hours and it didn't hurt until we got back to the studio! We didn't see much wildlife because it was the middle of the day but there were still some fairly good shots to be had. I'll have to be content to paint the ones I got that day because I think everyone is afraid to let me "rough it" any more! I'm just too accident prone! Oh well, I'll be busy for the next two weeks teaching to pay for some of my medical bills.

05/13/10 Commission Completed

This stunning mother and daughter were commissioned by her boyfriend. What a nice guy. It was a (late) Mother's Day present.

05/06/10 There's only one left - SOLD

This little guy was painted especially for the Wine Therapist opening and was also sold within the first 30 minutes! Thank you Kevin and Colleen. They bought it for Kevin's friend who argues with Colleen over who gets the last one (raw oyster).

I'll have to do some more variations on this theme, especially since we have that oil spill creeping into the coast. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to look at my blog.

05/05/10 BOTTOMS UP (small)

This little "bottoms up" was painted especially for our show at The Wine Therapist. The opening last Saturday was a HUGE success. The paintings will be at the Wine Therapist for about seven more weeks - just waiting for you to come in and buy them!
